How to Make Your Home Smell Like a 5-Star Hotel

When you enter a luxurious hotel, one of the first things you might notice is the smell that wafts throughout the lobby and hallways. One of the biggest compliments is when someone enters your home and they immediately have to say it smells so good in here the second greatest is how good you smell.

As someone who studied Hospitality and has years of experience working in hotels, once you enter the lobby of any major hotel NOT those budget ones or motels you will be sorely disappointed the only thing you would be greeted with is the smell of cigarettes. They will all have a distinctive smell.

The following are some well-known signature scents of popular luxury hotels that you can recreate in your own home:

Ritz Carlton: The Ritz Carlton often has a bouquet of lilies filling their foyer. To achieve a similar floral scent use fresh flowers, like rose or magnolia, for added depth.

Westin Hotels: Westin’s signature scent is a blend of white tea, wood cedar, and vanilla, providing a welcoming and cozy ambiance. The warmth of the cedar, combined with the subtleness of the white tea, creates a sense of calmness and relaxation.

Hotel Collection: Hotel Collection is known for its fresh and clean scents, often achieved by using soaps with crisp, botanical fragrances. Incorporate eucalyptus or mint into your home, as these scents evoke a spa-like feeling, reminiscent of the luxurious hotel experience.

To incorporate these scents into your home, consider using:

  • Scented candles
  • Essential oil diffusers
  • Room Sprays
  • Scented soaps

How To Make Your Home Smell Like A Hotel:

Essential Oils & Diffusers

Use essential oils in your bathroom on hand towels or in an electric diffuser. Because most apartments and homes now have open floor plans, it’s easy for smells to travel, especially when cooking. Using essential oils like grapefruit, lemongrass, and orange can really help to cut through those strong food odors.

Consider citrus essential oils that are commonly used in 5-star hotels, featuring a combination of orange, grapefruit, bergamot, lemon, and lime.

Reed Diffuser:

Reed Diffusers are a more passive and decorative option for adding a pleasant scent to your home they just give luxury. As a certified candle lover, it saddens me to say this but girl you gotta put that candle up during the warmer months.

Reed diffusers work best in smaller spaces, like bathrooms or bedrooms, since the fragrance is more concentrated and doesn’t disperse too far. For larger areas, consider using electric diffusers for a more potent scent experience.

Pro Tip: Use citronella incense sticks instead of the candle during the warmer month to keep those pesty little creatures away.

Keeping Your Home Fresh with Room Sprays

Besides candles which will always be my go to, Room Sprays are the next best thing. My favorite Candles right now are Maison Louise Maria N0.4 or Le Labo Santal 26 . Room sprays are also an excellent way to maintain the freshness of your home while emulating a luxurious hotel atmosphere.

If you want to get a little more creative, you can make your own DIY room spray with Fabric Softener. To do this, simply mix up 70% Isopropyl alcohol, 1 cap of your favorite softener or scented beads & 2 cups of hot water.

Incorporating Scents through Amenities

Soap and Lotion

To replicate the Hotel experience in your home, consider replacing your regular soap and lotion with products that have sophisticated and calming scents. Some popular fragrance options often found in upscale hotels and spas include:

  • Rose: Known for its romantic and soothing properties, rose-scented soap and lotion can make your bathroom feel more like a relaxing oasis.
  • Lavender: Known for its calming and stress-relieving qualities, lavender can bring a sense of tranquility to your daily routine.
  • Vanilla: This warm, sweet, and slightly earthy scent can instantly elevate your sense of comfort and luxury.
  • Geranium: Often used in high-end spas, geranium has a pleasant and uplifting fragrance that can make you feel like you’re pampering yourself at a 5-star hotel.

Remember, you don’t need to spend a fortune on expensive soaps and lotions to achieve this effect. Simply look for affordable products with appealing scents that can transport you to your favorite hotel or spa experience. By incorporating these luxurious fragrances into your daily routine, you’ll enjoy a richer, more indulgent atmosphere in your home.
